Dreaming about my next escape

I wish it could be summer again. If I look out of the window, the winter blues is getting me, and I start dreaming of my next escape to sunny Egypt or Tenerife, maybe a summer trip to New Zealand, at least a shopping trip to Mailand or New York.

But browsing through the hotel-reservation sites to find that perfect hotel or the best hostel-deal in the destination of my dreams usually ends all these positive feelings – it is just a drag to have to enter your specifications over and over again, getting the same sponsored results that would never be my first choice, and then the search for more information, how many more clicks could there possibly be.

With HostelWorld.com I finally found my site – all the property types from Hotels to Campsites, videos and podcasts, free pocket guides and my own travel community, all the info and services I need for all those destinations worldwide, and everything just a click away. And what better place to dream about that next escape while being on the train on my way to work with those grey winter clouds – now they even have the HostelWorld-App.

Great!

In the last summer I traveled in my holidays to Tenerife Island.

My hotel was located in Playa de las Americas, this is in the south of the island.

I was shocked, because my first impression of the south was like an desert. If the trees and plants don´t get water from the resorts, then nothing would grow up there. But it looks very nice.

The name of our hotel was “Los Hibiscus”, a very nice location. There you can find a swimingpool and the rooms are with balcony. The beach was only 10 minutes away from the hotel.

The beach has black sand, but at some bays they put white sand, so it looks like classic beaches. Because of historical reasons, the island arised by volcano activities, the sand has it´s black colour.

At my first night I found some cockroaches, but you have to know, they live here longer then any human and are very shy. It´s pretty normal in these warm regions to see cockroaches.

At my second day of the holdays i made a dolphin tour, and it was very nice. Included in this dolphin tour is a shipping near the stone coast at Los Gigantes a very huge (500 meters high) mountain at the coast. After some minutes we saw many dolphins. This was my highlight of the travel to tenerife island.

Last year i was very excited, about my first holidays in Tenerife. I heard very much of this island and so I started to make my own impressions of this island. So first of all I can say, that my holidays in tenerifa were awesome. Tenerife is not just an island for hanging around in the beach and doing nothing.

Of course, many people went to Tenerife because of this, but you don’t have to do this. Tenerife has many options do make your holidays. What I liked very much, was the many beach-bars in Tenerife. My holidays were about 2 weeks and I could nearly every evening, went to another bar. It was awesome! But also the landscape was very beautifully in Tenerife. Most oft the people over there, just hang around on the beach, like I said it before. But for me, it was not enough.

Tenerife hast more to give than the beaches and the sea and everyone who makes his holidays over there, have to check out the landscape in Tenerife. And also it’s so amazing, cause the flight to Tenerife and also the hotel was very cheap. I looked in the Internet at a many flight-portals and I found a lot of really cheap flights + hotels. So I would rather you to do this at the same way.

The onliest thing you have to look at, is to find the right site for that. Maybe you can make a test in the Internet and ask there for good sites. Cause a lot of this sites aren’t very seriously. But I don’t want to put a bad taste in this, cause Tenerife is really awesome and I would make my holidays over there, every time again.

Record numbers of tourists heading for Tenerife, the headlines have been screaming in the build up to the annual Easter holidays.

Yet already the bar, cafe and restaurant owners on the island of eternal spring are asking: ‘Where are all these tourists? We can’t see them!’

The problem is that so many of the island’s hotels are signing up to the latest tourist fad – namely, the all-inclusive holiday.

Going ‘all-in’ means that you take all your meals and all your drinks within the confines of the hotel and its grounds.

Personally, I can think of nothing worse than spending an entire holiday cooped up within the confines of one establishment. But it seems that many 21st century tourists see it as the perfect holiday.

And it’s leaving many small business owners on the island ringing their hands in disbelief. Not a few of them are worried.

Recent Canarian government figures confirmed that there are some 10,000 catering establishments on Tenerife and it seems that many of them are already feeling the pinch as more and more hotels and tour operators turn over to this latest fancy.

To give an idea of how all-embracing and world-encapsulating this trend has become, simply typing in the words ‘all inclusive holidays’ into Google returned a staggering 2,660,000 results, offering all-inclusive deals in all four corners of the globe.

In reality, it’s yet another example of the march of global corporatism that threatens to make every town and city in the world a carbon copy of its neighbour.

It’s already ruined High Streets the length and breadth of the UK and now it’s beginning to threaten those places where traditionally we have been able to get away from it all.

Undoubtedly we live in a crazy world – yet it seems to be getting still crazier by the minute.
