Luxury club opens in lighthouse

Friday, July 13th, 2007
A chic new night club just opened on Tenerife will serve as a beacon for those wanting to see tourism facilities on the island of eternal spring moved upmarket. The Faro club in Costa Adeje is developed around a lighthouse and has a level of sophistication more usually associated with exotic night spots in the south of France or the Miami strip. It offers an eclectic mix of music and art in sumptuous and relaxing surroundings. It will act as a venue for live concerts and art exhibitions as well as providing an exciting night time experience for holidaymakers after a day on the beach. The Faro has a special Zen terrace where clubbers can chill out and watch the sunset before picking up the pace as the night wears on and the tempo increases. The Faro can be found between Playa Puerto Colon and ...

Tenerife has its share of naturist beaches

Sunday, April 8th, 2007
Tenerife isn’t exactly renowned for its beaches, but it has a fair number of naturist beaches dotted around the island. On the stretch of coast near to the island capital of Santa Cruz, look out for: 1 Playa de las Gaviotas north of the famous man-made beach of Playa de las Teresitas near Igueste de San Andrés in the north east of the island. 2 Playa de Benijo near Nuestra Señora de Begoña and El Chinobre in the far north. 3 Playa de Fabián. 4 Playa del Draguillo. In the Puerto de la Cruz area, the best known is Playa de los Patos, about a half-hour’s walk from Puerto. Access is not easy but it is highly recommended by local naturists because of its seclusion. Also recommended are: 1 Playa del Ancón near to the above-mentioned Los Patos beach. 2 Playa de ...

Palm Sunday marks the beginning of the most important week in the religious calendar in Tenerife, the start of Semana Santa, or Holy Week. As the seat of the Bishop of Tenerife, the celebrations in La Laguna are the most important and culminate in the magnificent Magna procession on Viernes Santo (Good Friday, April 6), which starts at 5pm from the church of Nuestra Senora de la Concepcion, one of the oldest churches on the island, dating back to 1502. The Magna procession is followed by the Silence procession, starting at 9pm, in which all ...

Tenerife – the new golfing paradise

Tuesday, March 6th, 2007
Tenerife is rapidly establishing itself as the perfect all-year-round destination for golfing holidays. A number of new courses have sprung up in recent years, all offering first class facilities in glorious locations. Tenerife's superb climate means that conditions for golf are almost always ideal, with average temperatures ranging between 20-26C throughout the year. Probably the best-known of the island’s courses is Buenavista, located in the remote north of the island. Designed by five-times major winner Severiano Ballesteros, the 18-hole clifftop course has the sea on one side and the Teno mountains as a backdrop on the other. The clubhouse, with a large lake in front of it, has superb panoramic views over the 6,019-metre course and the Atlantic Ocean beyond. Last year the Buenavista del Norte course won a prestigious national award at the Spanish Golf Federation Gala in Madrid for the attention paid to ...

Spanish group Iberostar Hotels & Resorts has upgraded its flagship Spanish hotel, creating the company’s first five-star property in Spain. When it re-opens next month, the Anthelia will launch a new butler service for guests staying in the suites, offering them a dedicated butler. The refurbished hotel will also feature a water spa with thermal activity pool including jacuzzis, fountains and underwater shoots. Located directly on the seafront, between the two main beaches of Playa del Duque and Playa de Fañabe, only the seafront promenade separates the hotel from the beach, which is around 50 metres away. Iberostar has 36 four-star Spanish hotels including four in Tenerife. The group has 98 hotels currently in operation worldwide and will celebrate the opening of its 100th hotel in May with the ...
