Carnival is celebrated in every town and village on the island, though the most spectacular are those in the capital of Santa Cruz and the resort town of Puerto de la Cruz. Some of the smaller towns and villages try to organise their events so as not to clash with the two giant events. But for all of them, carnival follows a traditional pattern of groups of music, dance and sumptuous costumes.
