Vacation in El Sauzal

El Sauzal – for fine wed wine

El Sauzal is one of the most important wine growing areas in Tenerife, renowned for the quality of its red wine in particular.

It also lays claim to a micro-climate considered to be one of the best on the island.

The town itself is modern and expanding but the rural coastal area and the higher slopes are peaceful and relaxing, affording spectacular views of the Atlantic coastline.

It's also offers some of the best vantage points from which to appreciate the full majesty of Mount Teide.

Worth seeing in El Sauzal

Parish church of San Pedro and Parque los Lavaderos
The parish church has a moorish dome and next to it is the Parque los Lavaderos with its many colourful sub-tropical plants and palms and an extravagant water fountain. A large flight of steps leads up to the equally imposing town hall.

Casa del Vino, La Baranda
A traditional 17th Century Canary Island estate has been converted by the island government, the Cabildo, into a striking wine museum. The house has been lovingly and tastefully restored, retaining original features such as the family chapel with its intricately-carved ceiling and grand central courtyard.

Admission to the museum and house is free. The museum has a wine tasting room and a shop where wines from the island's five 'Denominaciones de Origen' can be purchased.

The museum stages many cultural events, such as concerts, lectures, wine tasting courses and exhibitions. The complex has recently been expanded to include a honey museum.
