Basic Information about Tenerife

The island of Tenerife is the biggest one that of the pale yellow archipelago. She has a surface of 2.053 km² and has the shape of a triangle.

Tenerife is also called the island of the everlasting spring. A mountain chain stretches through the centre of Anaga to Teno and shows extremly fertile valleys.

In the heart of the mountain chain there is a gigantic vulcanic crater, called Las Cañadas del Teide.

Tenerife is rich on a variety of different plants and trees, of which some are native and can only be found on this island.

The capital of the island is Santa Cruz de Tenerife with 220.000 inhabitants.

The climate on the island of Tenerife is pleasent for the whole year, that's why it is called somtimes the island of neverending spring. Even if the Canary Islands are meridional from the equator, the temperatures are not very elevated. This is because of the trade wind and the coolness, which comes from the Atlantic Ocean. The mild climate is one of the reasons why many vacationers love the island. It is adequate for everybody as the temperatures are not extrem at any time of the year.
