Isle of Tenerife

Los Cristianos, Tenerife

Popular family tourist centre

Los Cristianos is a popular destination for families with young children, principally because of its fine, golden sand beaches.

The town’s main beach was created artificially using sand from the Sahara Desert.

Los Cristianos was once a small fishing village and to this day retains its harbour, albeit much expanded to cater for the needs of tourists with activities such as big-game fishing.

Trips on glass-bottomed boats and other excursions to see the colony of pilot whales living just off the coast run side by side with the ferry boats running to the islands of La Gomera, La Palma and El Hierro.

Los Cristianos is quiter and more relaxed than its bigger and brasher neighbour, Playa de las Américas.

Despite the many high-rise developments associated with mass tourism, some of the old fishing village remains to be explored.
